The story behind Williams Den

Williams Den was created by Tor and Christian Carver, inspired by a simple observation during their son William’s birthday party. Watching children play freely with unbridled joy, they recognized the critical need for spaces where kids could explore, create, and engage with natural environments. This vision led to a £3 million investment to transform part of Castle Farm at Wold Hill, North Cave into a unique adventure playground.

The construction wasn’t without challenges. Afiter the initial builders went into administration, Houlton stepped in to complete the project, which finally opened its doors to eager families in 2017.

Indoor and outdoor adventures

The 475sqm indoor ‘Den’ forms just one part of this comprehensive play experience. Inside, children can explore creative play spaces designed to stimulate imagination and physical activity regardless of weather conditions.

Step outside and the adventure continues with:

  • A thrilling 50-meter zip wire
  • Dedicated den making areas
  • ‘Mountains and molehills’ spaces for running and jumping
  • Natural play elements including streams and stepping stones
  • Tree climbing opportunities and adventure bridges

The thoughtful design encourages children to engage with natural elements, take calculated risks, and develop confidence through play – all while parents can relax knowing the environment is safe yet challenging.
